a fresh start

After 14 years of Conservative failure, decline and destruction of our public services, its time for change. We deserve better.

In Burnley, Padiham and Brierfield, our Conservative MP has not delivered the services, jobs, growth and ambition we need.

We need a fresh start.

Labour is proud of our towns and will make Britain a fairer, greener more prosperous place. We must invest in public services here; our high streets, our environment and our young people.

Together we can look to the future with confidence again. Britain needs its future back.

about oliver ryan

A Lancashire man who grew up near Oldham/Ashton-Under-Lyne, Oliver lives locally in Burnley and works in Bury.

The eldest of four, Oliver was born in the 1990s under a Tory Government, to a single Mum with long-term health needs. Money was tight and public services were critical, but things got better under the Labour Government of 1997-2010.

The massive investment that Government made in our town, our housing, our schools, our services and most of all in our people – that’s what inspired Oliver to go into politics.

Oliver says:

“It breaks my heart to see what’s happened to Britain. We’re weaker, a lot poorer, more divided and more depressed about our future than we were in 2010.

I fundamentally believe every young person deserves the chance to thrive, and reach their full potential. A baby born in Burnley deserves the same chances as a baby born in Belgravia or Bristol or Birmingham and the Tories don’t get that.”

For Oliver, public service is important. He was an elected councillor for nine years in Greater Manchester and was responsible for statutory Children’s Social Care Services and later Regeneration and Finance for a Metropolitan Borough Council.

After completing his undergraduate degree in History at The University of Manchester, Oliver completed his postgraduate in Law at The University of Law. He has worked in the private and public sectors for clients across a range of industries – delivering investment.

Oliver knows that Burnley, Padiham and Brierfield are towns that want the next generation to do better than the last, want a fair future where every young person can stay and thrive.

Oliver says:

“I’ll be spending every day between now and the election speaking to people, hearing what you want for our town. I know we can achieve more together if I’m elected as Burnley’s voice in Westminster. With your support, we can change Burnley and build the Britain we want to see.”

Oliver's priorities:

Jobs and Youth Unemployment: We need to deliver more decent jobs and training – especially for our young people – no one should be left behind.

Housing: The last Labour Government invested in urban renewal and new housing stock here – we more homes and investment in our current stock.

Our NHS: Burnley, Padiham and Brierfield deserve world class healthcare. Our GP, emergency, community and dental services need proper investment and reform.

Transport: Our area should be taking more advantage of our strategic location and improving links between our towns and Manchester, Preston, Liverpool and Leeds.

Council Services: We need a better deal out of Lancashire County Council, our roads need investment. Moreover, Burnley & Pendle councils need the resources to improve our towns.

Environment and Energy Security: Great British Energy. Cherish our environment and make sure Burnley, Padiham and Brierfield can take fuller advantage of the clean energy revolution.
